There's some talk going around that Marcus Lattimore will be hired on the football staff in some sort of off-field support position.

South Carolina legend Marcus Lattimore will return to his alma mater's football program in an off-the-field role.

The former Gamecocks running back will work as a spiritual advisor/chaplain in the player development department. He spent this past season as the head football coach at Heathwood Hall in Columbia.

Heathwood Hall sent a staff e-mail out today announcing the move. It's anticipated USC will announce the addition of Lattimore on Friday, along with the Gamecocks 10th full-time assistant coach.

Lattimore played for the Gamecocks from 2010-12 and was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Byrnes High product never played in the NFL as a result of lingering knee injuries and subsequently retired from playing football. Since that point, he has worked coaching football at the high school level, established the Marcus Lattimore Foundation and run multiple football camps and seminars designed at making a difference in the lives of young athletes.

“While Lattimore's role with the Marcus Lattimore Foundation kept him from joining the Carolina staff in a non-coaching role when Muschamp first arrived in Columbia, Lattimore tells Uva that he has worked it out with the NCAA and compliance to keep his foundation, though there are limits on his involvement with some of the foundation's programs.” - WACH

The role is perfectly suited for Lattimore, who is known as a man of his faith and stresses the importance of having high character.

“There’s more to life than football,” Lattimore said in an interview with WACH Fox. “You’re not (at USC) just to play. You’re here for a higher purpose. You can use that. You can use football and not let football use you.”

"I want to be part of the first Championship to come to Columbia, SC, and I know that coach Muschamp is the guy to do that."

It's good to have Latti back :)
