Will Muschamp’s defense is going to play the role of “the wild man of Borneo” in the UNC backfield in the season opener.

YUM YUM EAT ‘EM UP!

The one sentence comes from the professional assessment of the first UNC scrimmage:

“There was little doubt today that the defense is ahead of the offense. Observers couldn’t recall any passing touchdowns (one source didn’t think the offense scored any TDs, period), and the sacks and INTs piled up. One source thought the number of sacks reached double-digits, and some of the sacks were essentially coverage sacks, too. The offense struggled to score, but it was competitive and hard fought.”

Close second: “The two-minute drill lasted only four plays, with the defense creating four straight sacks for a turnover on downs – three of the sacks were multiple players getting to the QB and the other was a solo sack by Gemmel.”

For a team whose defense the last two seasons was Swiss cheese against ECU and the EZZ, it’s eye opening for their D to hold their strength - their offense - scoreless.
